Placement on this web site

If information about a missing person is placed on this web site, it could violate the privacy of this missing person. Therefore it must be investigated if indications exist that the person went missing of his own free will. Afterward the authorities must be able to show that publishing the personal information was carefully considered; the missing persons interests are the deciding factor.

When trying to locate missing persons, police acts on the basis of her task to assist those who need help, as described in article 2 of the “Politiewet” (the law on police), unless there are indications that the missing person has become the victim of a criminal act.

A missing person’s information can be put on this web site, if:
• the disappearance has been reported to police
• written permission has been given by someone who is next of kin of the missing person.

If you have reported someone as missing and this person is not present on this web site yet, you can contact police where you have reported the disappearance with the request to have the missing person’s information published. The missing persons coordinator with that regional police department can then request the National Police to publish the missing person’s information.

In case the missing person belongs to a so-called “high-risk” group, the information can be published right away, after permission has been obtained. If no high-risk situation appears to exist, publication will take place three weeks after the date of disappearance.

If the missing person himself objects to the publication of his information, that information will be removed from the web site.
